International Girl Child Day

International Girl Child Day

Sudha Society celebrated International Girl Child Day on 11 October 2020 to ensure that all girls have access to education and lead a dignified life.

Girls face a lot of issues in their life, whether its India or any other country in the world they are expected to suffer and bear the pain. Starting from female infanticide to gender inequality to sexual abuse, there is no dearth of issues. Thus, to curb these menaces and to recognize girls' rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world International Girl Child Day is observed every year. The International Day of the Girl Child is being celebrated every year on October 11. The main objective of this day is to empower women and help them to get their rights so that they can face the challenges all over the world and meet their needs.
Much progress has been made in the last two decades to ensure every girl is able to grow and develop in good health, still, there is much to do. Sudha Society celebrated International Girl Child Day to ensure that all girls have access to education and lead a dignified life, under the able guidance of Mr. G.K. Bhatnagar (President Sudha Society).

Gurbani Kaur - "My Story"

Ever since I was a child, I always felt like I had a special connection with animals, like I could communicate with them on their level. It’s like I learnt to open up to animals way before I did with humans. I was never allowed to keep pets inside my home, but fortunately, in my neighbourhood, there are a lot of stray dogs. I chose to understand and help them. So, I started feeding them everyday. I didn’t have many friends around here so I used to play with them every evening as well. Who knew I’d find the best friends I never asked for.

It didn’t take long before I started treating them like family. I’ve been feeding them on a daily basis for the last 12 years, I take them to the vet when they’re sick, get clothes for them in winters, give them shelter in the rainy season, help them stay calm during festive seasons when people burst crackers and most importantly, love them unconditionally. Whenever I step outside for a walk, I have a whole gang of dogs walking by my side and that makes me feel proud as I’ve never experienced such a unique connection with anyone. It’s the most unexpected and beautiful thing that happened to me.

Hence I decided to dedicate my career to them and become a veterinary doctor. Now I’m pursuing my dream and looking forward to spending a lifetime with animals.
