World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day is observed on May 31 every year to highlight the risk associated with the use of tobacco. The annual campaign is an opportunity to raise awareness to help reduce use and protect the health of the people.

The World Health Organization (WHO) promotes World No Tobacco Day each year to highlight the health risks of using tobacco and to encourage governments to put policies into action that help to reduce smoking and the use of other tobacco products. According to WHO, tobacco use kills more than 8 million people around the world each year. Smoking any kind of tobacco reduces lung capacity and increases the severity of respiratory diseases.

Awareness rally to highlight the hazards of smoking and chewing tobacco was conducted by SUDHA Society at South City 2, Gurugram on Friday. Mrs. Shammy Ahlawat, Chairperson of Parivartan Organization was the chief Guest of the function.

The awareness rally was taken out by the students of SUDHA Open School, the students carried placards, informed the public about the adverse effects of smoking and chewing tobacco. Students were taught that tobacco use causes various types of cancers, cardiovascular diseases and several other diseases apart from reducing life of smoker by 6 to 10 years. Spreading awareness is one of the best ways to reduce tobacco consumption.

SUDHA Society reached a lot of people through this rally on World No Tobacco Day.
